Backup and restore your data with FreeMedForms

Those instructions are valid up to FreeMedForms version 0.9.8

Backup

Single workstation install (SQLite)

  • Backup your FMF documents folder. It is located in your personal folder and bears the name freemedforms
  • Backup your FMF configuration folder. It is a hidden folder .freemedforms located inside your personal folder. To be able to see this hidden folder, you may need to set your document manager to show hidden files and folders
  • That's all. Your configuration files and your data (medical files database, documents, datapacks) are safe
  • Example Linux/Mac script :
    # get in your personal folder
    cd ~
    # create a tar.gz archive containing all your data
    DATE=`date "+%Y%m%d_%H%M%S"`
    tar czvf freemedforms_bkup$DATE.tgz ~/.freemedforms ~/freemedforms

Network install (MySQL)

  • Backup your FMF documents folder. It is located in your personal folder and bears the name freemedforms
  • Backup your FMF configuration folder. It is a hidden folder .freemedforms located inside your personal folder. To be able to see this hidden folder, you may need to set your document manager to show hidden files and folders
  • Backup FMF databases:
    	fmf_agenda
    	fmf_alerts
    	fmf_category
    	fmf_dosages
    	fmf_episodes
    	fmf_patients
    	fmf_pmh
    	fmf_templates
    	fmf_users
    	fmf_xmlforms
  • Backup FMF MySQL users, you could do that by creating a backup of the mysql database which contains all MySQL users
  • We recommand that you use MySQL command mysqldump (GNU/Linux, Mac) or graphical user interface free software phpMyAdmin (GNU/Linux, Mac, Windows)
  • If you need more information please ask on our mailing list

Restore

To restore or migrate your data, it is recommended to use the same FMF version or the version immediately superior. If there is one (or more) intermediate version between the version used to backup data and the version you're trying to restore it to, please read changelogs carefully for all versions. When in doubt or if a problem arises, ask for help on our mailing list or forum.
